See, I told you there was a sick and twisted undercurrent to all this niceness. As with Hot Date before it, On Holiday lets the builders among you construct a resort, with the advantage of unlimited resources. This Lego side of The Sims is another big reason for its success, as is the fact that it is endlessly customisable.

There is always a new pair of knickers to download, a new wallpaper scheme to paste on, a new dishwasher to discover. It has allowed legions of grown men and women too ashamed to play with dolls to give full vent to their regressive childish fantasies. The creator Will Wright must be cackling insanely as he rolls in his swimming-pool filled with dollar bills, and you can't really blame Maxis for squeezing its success for all its worth, even if it goes against everything modern games should be about.

Yes, people play games to lead alternate lives. But they usually take the opportunity to go on a murdering rampage, save the world or cast a spell and not eat, sleep, defecate and work in an endless cycle just to earn enough to pack up the wife and kids for a weekend at Butlins.

Don't you find it depressing that people pay the price of a top range PC just to spend two weeks cracking their greasy skin on a beach and digging sand out of their orifices? If all you're after is slow immolation why not stay at home and hold a cigarette lighter over every inch of your body? In fact, that's something we wouldn't mind doing to the sims, who seem to have such trite vacations.

Verified Purchase. I just recieved this game, and have been playing it all day. Let me say that I am thorougly disappointed. Not only does it cause my entire system to run much more slowly, but there doesn't seem to be much "game" involved in it. For example, I had one sim family of mine visit three different resorts. The first was in the forest, the more upscale of the three forest options, and primarily it was interesting.

It was a different landscape, a completely different scenario. Soon after, I found that all my sims wanted was to eat, even if they weren't hungry. When I was finally able to pry them away from the buffet line, there wasn't much for them to do.

My child sim stood, waiting for another child, at the water balloon area for a long while, mainly because there wasn't anything else for her to do. Another sim rented a metal detector and did three rounds of the hotel grounds.

Not much fun there, either. I then decided that my sims should visit the snow. While there was much more to do in the snow, in essence there was only the same problems. All they wanted to do was eat. When again pried away from the food, there were the options of snowball fights, snow sliding, snowboarding, and the hot tub for the adults only.

The snowball situation was identical to that of the water balloon situation. The snowboarding, while fun intitially, tires out quickly, at least for the sim. He or she will do at least rounds on the ramp, wipe out, give up and walk away. The snow sliding, on the other hand, froze out my whole system, no pun intended.

The hot tub, similar to the heart hot tub from previous expansion packs, was a nice addition, though it is only for use by adults. After a day there, my sims decided to go down the beach resort. That, in my opinion, was the nicest of the three, and even IT had its' drastic downsides.

My sim child developed the worst of the problems. It seemed to develop a case of diahrrea, which i realize isn't completely unusual for a vacation, but when a sim uses the toilet and immediately demands a shower, going back and forth between the two because neither scale will improve at all gets to be MORE than tedious. In contrast though, the beach proved to have much more "fun filled activities" than the other two combined.

The pool, the waterslide, the carnival area, the arcade area, and, of course, the buffet table managed to keep my sims busy. One out of three resort areas isn't satisfactory.

In short, I do not reccomend this expansion pack. The game was for my son who is autistic. The idea behind The Sims 4: Outdoor Retreat is similar to the expansions of The Sims 2 Bon Voyage and The Sims 3 Around the World : phoning your Sims to go on vacation and for a small fee you can enjoy site accommodation camping or lodge, it depends on the price and leisure activities. Thus we find the housing lots, in which sims can meet their basic needs and a park, which has the same use as the community lots of The Sims 4: activities and meet new sims.

If you've played The Sims 4 it will not be difficult to play Outdoor Retreat, it is that there really is no new feature in the game that you should learn.

It is ll about performing daily activities, interacting with other sims and exploring the environment in search of collectibles. Anyway, if you still have doubts, you can access the two new tutorials that you'll find in the help option.

Camping has a new country theme that is well applied to the design of the expansion. All lots of Granite Falls stand out for its lush vegetation and new visual effects typical of nature, like insects flying in a foggy forest.

However, I believe that we are a little more in the countryside if EA had added some wildlife walking around and some other random events with them for example, bothering us as we make a barbecue.

But that has not happened, and Granite Falls is a beautiful landscape but with little life and the good atmosphere is missing that was in the community lots of The Sims 2: Bon Boyage or The Sims 3: Around the World.

Outdoor Retreat is the first expansion pack of The Sims 4 and though the idea is good, some things are completely missing. For example, although the atmosphere is achieved the sensation of camping is a bit poor.

Wild animals and more NPCs to interact with are sorely needed, especially if compared with camping vacation neighbourhoods of previous Sims games.
